Roots Travel was founded in Cambridge in 2001 to provide opportunities for overseas students of English attending the city's language schools to experience the UK's wide variety of tourism and cultural attractions. Roots has now expanded to serve all other groups visiting the city with especial emphasis on the overseas visitor. We aim to provide an easy solution for small groups and individuals that wish to maximise their opportunities in the UK.

Roots Travel is operated by Matt Hayes who has over 17 years experience of working with overseas visitors to Britain. He first became involved in English as a Foreign Language in 1991 as an English teacher in Hiroshima, Japan, before progressing to the post of Director of Studies at a school in Pusan, South Korea. On return to the UK in 1997, he took on the position of Events Manager at a Cambridge English language school, expanding the events on offer to encompass events within school time of educational and cultural interest whilst retaining an active entertainment and sightseeing element to the free-time programme.
Roots Travel began from within the school in 2001 and became a full-time going concern in 2005. Roots aims to show you the highlights of the UK and provide you with a deeper insight to the culture of these historic islands. Destinations are carefully chosen and diligently researched to guarantee an enjoyable, rewarding visit made reliably, punctually and safely. Our experience with overseas visitors to the UK enables us to communicate well with our customers, providing relevant information in a clear and concise way. And, our experience overseas enables us to understand what it is like to be abroad in a foreign culture, perhaps with only basic language skills.

Roots considers the welfare of its passengers a priority. All travel obeys strict EU legislation on driving rules and passenger safety. We use well-maintained, reliable and comfortable minibuses. Minibus travel enables passengers to visit sights and attractions that larger buses cannot access. What's more, with an informal atmosphere that small groups engender and the opportunity to meet like-minded passengers, many passengers find that the journey is very much an enjoyable part of the trip.
