Remember that the UK is bigger than you may think - 1500km from the north of Scotland to Land's End in Cornwall in the south. Edinburgh is a long way from London. The Highlands of Scotland is a long way from Edinburgh.
If, like most people, you arrive in the UK in London, there are literally hundreds of beautiful and rewarding places to see without venturing north of Birmingham!
 
Not to say that a trip north is not worthwhile - far from it! Some of the most beautiful parts of the UK are in the north and west - Just be prepared for long journeys. If you choose long journeys, roots will aim to break the journey at interesting places -the UK has an enormous number of worthwhile stopover attractions.
