Join our one day guided tour from Cambridge to visit Canterbury & Greenwich, the Seat of the Church of England and the naval control room of the British Empire with its present associations with Time.
Canterbury
In 597AD, sent by Pope Gregory the Great as a missionary, St Augustine established the Anglican faith at Canterbury. In 1170 Archbishop Thomas Becket was murdered in Canterbury Cathedral making the town the focus of christian pilgrimmage, immortalised in the writings of Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. The magnificent cathedral oversees the goings-on in the medieval streets around.
Greenwich
Now buried in the heart of London in the shadow of Docklands modernity, the peaceful and historic backwater of Greenwich chimes a different tune. Clocks worldwide are synchronised to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), a reflection of Britain's historic naval prowess. Visit the Royal Observatory, the National Maritime Museum and Greenwich Market before heading off in the footsteps of Chaucer's Tales.
