What can I see?

  • The Cotswolds is one of the most beautiful rural areas of England
  • Cheltenham is a grand town of impressive Georgian buildings and picturesque gardens

Situated between Oxford and South Wales, the Cotswolds is an area of rolling hills, wooded valleys, fields of sheep and flowers, and, the reason for its fame and popularity, wonderful honey-coloured villages. Quintessential England! Cheltenham, the capital of the Cotswolds, is a beautiful Georgian spa town with fabulous buildings and excellent shopping. The annual cheese-rolling festival held in late May is peculiar to the Cotswolds - people running down a steep hill after a large round cheese!

Your driver-guide has lived for much of his upbringing in The Cotswolds and so can show you places that most tourists never reach. It is important that to see The Cotswolds well, travel is conducted in minibuses so that it is possible to access all the country backroads with the most beautiful of rural scenes.

Plan for the day

First we head to the south Cotswolds to the "most beautiful village in Britain", Bibury, a perfect introduction to The Cotswolds. Then we take to the narrow, winding country backroads along the beautiful Coln Valley to explore villages off the beaten track en route to Cheltenham. Cheltenham, the capital of the Cotswolds, is one of the UK's prettiest towns. There will be free time to browse the many wonderful shops and boutiques before heading back into the countryside to the tourist village of Bourton-on-the-water with its quaint river flowing through its heart. Finally, on to the hilltop town of Stow-on-the-Wold famous for its antiques and pretty market square. Return to Cambridge mid-evening.
