What can I see?

  • Norwich, the capital of the East Anglia region
  • Castle, cathedral and great shopping

Norwich, the capital of the East Anglia region, was in mediaeval times the second richest city in Britain. It is now famous for its cathedral, castle, Elm Hill (unchanged mediaeval streets) and great shopping.

It is possible to combine this trip with a visit to the Norfolk Broads, a vast area of linked waterways ideal for boating. Travel from lakeside pub to pub exploring all the quieter rural scenes of eastern Norfolk. Alternatively, combine Norwich with a visit to the North Norfolk Coast and a boat trip out to see the seals that live all year round on the sandbanks of Blakeney Point. If you would like to offer either of these alternatives, contact us for details.

Plan for the day

We arrive in Norwich mid-afternoon. Join your Roots driver-guide for an informal walk along the river through old Norwich's medieval streets to sample the delights of the wonderful cathedral. Spend the afternoon visiting the castle which overlooks the city or browse the fabulous shops of the narrow city centre streets or exploring the open market in the market square. Back to Cambridge mid-evening.
