What can I see?

  • Oxford, home to the oldest university in the UK
  • The Ashmolean Museum, the oldest museum in Britain
Oxford is famous worldwide for its University, the oldest in the UK. Its dreaming spires dominate the city skyline. But Oxford has more than just the University; interesting museums including Britain's oldest public museum founded in 1683, the Ashmolean Museum (free entry), a vibrant shopping centre, a fascinating history and plenty of attractions.

Plan for the day

After arriving in Oxford in mid-morning, you can take an optional professional guided tour of the city. The walking tour will take in the sights of the city centre and the colleges explaining the history of the University and its associated stories. After the tour, you will have free time to do what you like. Alternatively, visit the Oxford Story, where you can climb aboard one of Europe’s longest indoor ‘dark’ rides to explore the University’s early beginnings and fascinating facts behind its record-breaking discoveries. Then wander the college-lined streets or the beautiful parks to soak up the atmosphere of one of the world's great academic cities. Back to Cambridge early evening.
