What can I see?

  • Windsor Castle, the largest occupied castle in the world
  • Eton College, the school attended by Prince William and Prince Harry
  • Stonehenge, the oldest monument in Europe

Windsor Castle is the largest occupied castle in the world and an official residence of The Queen. It contains a royal palace with wonderful State Apartments used for ceremonies and a magnificent chapel housing the tombs of ten sovereigns of England. The town of Eton on the opposite banks of the River Thames from the castle is connected by a footbridge. It is a quaint historic place famous for its public school. Its most recent famous pupils? Princes William & Harry! Stonehenge, like Bath, is a World Heritage Site. The stone circle was built almost 5000 years ago and is the oldest monument in Europe. Located on the open, rolling landscape of Salisbury Plain, Stonehenge will capture your imagination. Learn about Neolithic cultures and marvel at what scientists believe is their most important astronomical temple.

Plan for the day

We leave Cambridge at 0800 for Stonehenge. On arrival, your guide will explain the history and understanding of Stonehenge. 1-hour stay at the stones. Take the audio tour (available in several languages) to hear more about the site. On arrival in Windsor the first stop is the castle. However, if the weather is good, we will first take a stroll into Windsor Great Park where there are magnificent views of the Castle. After an introductory talk about the castle and its place in British history, you will have free time to explore its many attractions. But there is more to see than just the castle: wander the narrow shopping streets of Windsor town, relax by the banks of the River Thames which flows between the towns of Windsor and Eton, or sample British upper class society in the antique shops and the famous college at Eton.
