The American Cemetery
Tour to the American Cemetery from Cambridge

The American Cemetery is where American military personnel who died in WWII in the East Anglian region are commemorated. Located on a peaceful, wooded hillside just a few miles from Cambridge city centre, it is a poignant reminder to the tragedy of war. The cemetery contains 3,810 individual headstones but a 130-metre wall leading to the museum lists a further 5,127 names of those who were never found or positively identified.

The Museum itself has an impressive map outlining the manoeuvres of all the Allies during the War, making the understanding of events much simpler. The American Cemetery may not be a place of celebration but its beauty and meaning and the feelings that it evokes, make it a memorable short trip.
